In the year 1926, a small group of Methodists, under the leadership of Bro. Porter D. Hall, decided to leave the Nash Memorial Methodist Church.  A series of prayer meetings began in the home of Bro. John W. and Ida Colbert.  Brothers Colbert, Eli Whittington, Percy L. Smith, and Harrison A. West used the first offering of $8.50 to rent 720 19th Street, N.E.

1926

Reverend Thomas E. Berry was invited to serve as Pastor and the first public service was held on Sunday May 1, 1926. The name “Pilgrim” was suggested by Sis. Carrie Carroll and was unanimously adopted.  The Church was united into the body of the A.M.E. Church by Bishop J. Albert Johnson and Presiding Elder John Norris.  Reverend Charles S. Butcher was appointed as the second Pastor.  During his administration, the church moved to 718 19th Street, N.E.

The new church was dedicated on Sunday May 25, 1941.    Reverend F. P. Turner was appointed as the next Pastor.  Reverend J.M. Harrison, Jr. was appointed to Pilgrim in 1946.  The present site was remodeled and partially redecorated.
